Its fireworks time, so protect your ears!

Remember remember, the 5th of November,

Gunpowder, treason and GOOD GOD THAT’S LOUD, OOH, MY EARS…

Yes, it’s that time of year again; the time where we all gather round to watch the beautiful displays of fireworks shooting into the night sky.  A time for warming hot chocolates, toffee apples and, if you’re in the mood, a tot or two of the good stuff!

Of course, it also means some serious noise.  Fireworks can be measured at up to a stonking 175dB, 35dB louder than is recommended for adults, and a huge 55dB higher than for children, according to the world health organisation.

Needless to say, exposure to these noises over time can lead to both temporary and permanent hearing loss and tinnitus.

Protect yourself!

We’re not suggesting, of course, that you just don’t go to a fireworks display: fireworks displays can be absolutely brilliant!  However, it’s important to ensure that you do what you can to protect you and your family’s hearing whilst those cracks and pops ring out.

It’s a very good idea to pick out some high quality earplugs for both you and any children.  If your little ones aren’t so comfortable with actual in-ear plugs (or if you aren’t: they’re not for everyone, after all!), then invest in some ear defenders instead.  They easily slot right over the ears, blocking out the noise without going anywhere near your actual ear canal.

Ear defenders and ear plugs are available at a wide range of different budgets, so you can easily pick up ones that suit.  If you’re not sure which ones are best, then get in touch with us today by calling 01473 603533 and we’ll be happy to help out.
